Bideford identified as an entrepreneurial hotspot
A recent study by Instant Offices, a company that helps business leaders find suitable office spaces, shed light on Devon's entrepreneurial landscape. By analysing data from Companies House for the county's cities and major towns, combined with population figures, they determined an "entrepreneurial index rating."
Surprisingly, despite its modest size, Bideford emerged as Devon's most entrepreneurial hub. The town saw a remarkable 22% increase in new businesses last year, totalling 228 registrations. Even more impressive is that this growth equates to one new business for every 80 residents, earning Bideford a high 'entrepreneurial index score.' These new ventures ranged from advertising agencies to courier services and were initiated by a diverse group, including over 50s and young entrepreneurs aged 18-25.
John Williams, the Chief Marketing Officer of Instant Offices, commented on the findings, stating, "This analysis showcases Devon's abundance of entrepreneurial-minded individuals who possess a strong drive and ambitious goals." He attributed the surge in entrepreneurship partly to the pandemic, which catalysed many to venture into business, encouraged by the flexibility of the modern workplace.
