Growing Towards Employment

Torridge Growing Together CIC is involved in the business of ‘growing people’, through offering community growing, conservation, upcycling and enterprise volunteering experiences, in addition to helping people gain skills, confidence and friendships. We encourage peer mentoring and are also developing the expertise to offer supported employment opportunities. Our slogan for 2025 is 'Become part of the solution' as our volunteers wish to be actively involved in improving their own lives and those around them. We are delighted to be able to offer a new phase of our ‘Growing Towards Employment’ programme through the generous support of the Bideford Regeneration Board.

Through this programme, we enable those who have been long-term unemployed (or who have yet to gain paid employment) to analyse their interests and skills and identify any barriers to work by creating an Individual Employment Plan. They are then encouraged to create SMART targets as stepping stones towards their goals. This might include providing them with supported volunteering or work experience (assisting with transport if required), helping them to access suitable courses and/or giving them advice on creating CVs and developing job application skills. The goal is to move people towards their ideal job, while respecting their individuality. We are also pleased to continue to work closely with Bideford Library and Work Club, plus Learn Devon, TTVS and various local businesses and organisations. We believe that we gain so much from fruitful collaboration and would love to hear from other organisations who have a similar vision for reaching out to improve the lives of some of our more vulnerable residents
