Journey Through Art is a new programme for young people aged 6 – 13 years*. Once a month, the Burton will host workshops for this age group covering a variety of creative media and skills. Come along simply to have fun and get creative, or choose to work towards an Arts Award.

Regular participants who want to work towards an Arts Award can pick up a Journey Through Art Passport for £2 to keep a record of their hours. You can purchase your Passport online or in person from the gallery shop.

Dates of next sessions:

  • Saturday 27 January 2024
    Art Inspired by Louise Bourgeois

We will take a look at a small selection of the artwork in the Louise Bourgeois exhibition, to use as a starting point for this session. Children will learn how to make dry point etchings, one of the techniques used by this artist.

  • Saturday 24 February 2024
    Drawing and Painting Still Lifes

Starting with a tour of the Friends Annual Open exhibition, the children will talk about the different techniques on show and sharing thoughts on their favourite pieces. The participants will set up some still life compositions and explore different ways of representing them through drawing and painting.

  • Saturday 23 March 2024
    Art in Nature

Spring is the perfect time of year to collect treasures from nature to study. We will use natural items found outdoors as a starting point for some beautiful monoprints.
